By Susan Graham

The HIV/AIDS epidemic is one of the most serious threats to human health. So global consensus has been reached on the need to fight the disease through comprehensive and integrated concerned sectors and agencies responses. The HIV organizations NYC area have has helped to raise substantial funding for HIV in lower and middle-income economies to provide access to HIV services to the people most in need despite the challenges that face them for example poverty.

One of their roles is to prevent the spread of this epidemic. Through social awareness and education on sex, most people get to learn on various methods of protecting themselves against infection. Use of condoms and sterilized instruments minimize chances of acquiring the virus. Also, the youths are made aware of the negatives health effects of drugs and a drug addiction which might expose them to early and irresponsible sexual behaviors.

Most of the time and cost is spent on taking care of the sick or seeking for a sick leave which reduces investment rate through loss of income. This will lead to diversion of attention and low decision-making process leading to depression and feeling stigmatized and finally, may lead to death.

Social isolation and stigmatization have greatly affected most families with relatives who are victims of HIV in the society, as most people do not want to associate or be associated with people living with the virus. This has forced health organizations to establish guiding and counseling centers in health facilities and other places that are easily accessible to the victims.

The pressure on the available in the health facilities in developing countries has increased as more people get admitted for treatment of HIV/AIDs related complications. There is a need to promote change in behavior to reduce the occurrence of the pandemic. This approach will help fight discrimination and stigma faced by the victims.

Education has helped many people make informed choices. Addiction program and drug addiction education among other programs has empowered people to recover from addiction and the risk behavior that might expose someone to contracting the virus. This is facilitated through sexual education which contributes to delaying first sexual encounter of a young person and leads further efforts at protection.

The development and prosperity of a country depends on the individual ability to be economically productive. HIV threatens development because most infected people feel inferior and have no role to play in economic development of their country. Therefore, the government and other organizations have committed resources to cater for treatment and financial assistance to the victims enable them to meet their needs. Also to ensure that they are not discriminated in either their workplace and during recruitment exercise.

Population plays a vital role in the economic growth of a country. Population provides sufficient labor which impacts positively on the countrys gross domestic product. To maintain this, health organizations make sure that infected mothers are advised not to breastfeed the infants to prevent infections which eventually could affect their health to reduce infant mortality. This is done by providing them with artificial milk free of charge.
