Why So Many People Move Towards Personal Healing

By Ronald Carter

Great strides have been made in the medical field and, in developed countries, people tend to see a professional when they do not feel well. If they are physically ill, they see a doctor and if they are mentally unwell or unhappy they see a psychologist or a therapist. Many people believe that most ailments, both physical and mental, can be controlled or cured with medication. There are numerous others, however, that firmly believe the only route to health is personal healing.

The philosophy of self curing has nothing to do with home remedies, herbal medicines or over the counter drugs administered at home. Instead, it is a belief that individuals truly have the mind power to cure themselves of any illness, whether it is mental or physical. It is simply a matter of learning how to unleash that power and how to direct it in order to cure oneself.

Self cure believers say that every person is surrounded by a unique energy field. They sometimes call it the aura. Healthy people have a healthy energy field but they can become ill if the flow of energy is blocked in any way or if the energy is directed in the wrong manner. A cure can therefore be made possible by restoring the health of the energy field.

The idea is to direct the incredible power of the mind towards the illness and to have absolute faith that the illness will be healed by this power. Therapists in this field admit that it is often very difficult to maintain this absolute faith, especially if there are no immediate results, but they believe that it is possible. Many therapists use a variety of techniques and disciplines to help their clients to use their mind power effectively.

In order to take control over the power of the mind it is necessary to be at peace with oneself, to be happy and content and to live a balanced life style. To achieve this state of being, many people take up disciplines like meditation, yoga and reiki to help them focus on their inner strength, to identify the areas where they need to grow and to increase their focus and concentration.

It is not only the mind that needs to be nurtured in order to use the power of the mind. The physical body and the mind must be in balance and therefore the body also needs attention. Counsellors advise their patients on how to embark upon an exercise program, how to eat properly and healthily, how to avoid or deal with stress and how to ensure quality sleeping patterns.

There are numerous self help books, websites and other resources that aim to help people to set the power of the mind free. However, experienced therapists recommend that beginners find a reputable counsellor or teacher. It may take some time to discover the particular discipline that work best for a particular individual but the teacher will provide guidance during this initial process.

There are many critics of this philosophy but the fact remains that the move towards self curing is growing at a tremendous pace. More and more people do not want to submit themselves to the dangers of complications and side effects that are inherent to invasive treatment and the use of drugs. In short, they want to be in control of their lives.
